TO THE PARENTS OR GUARDIAN: This course, as with most CompuRead courses, is designed to be worked with by a child. Therefore, please have a parent or guardian sign up under their account.This description applies to all modules in this story.The story of Level 3 Story 1 Raid on the Bait, is written around the phonetic elements of the Long /ai/ sound and shows the reader how each letter is used in words. The narration provides further reading skills by listening to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the word, but to hear it pronounced.Step 1, the Main Idea, "Be Prepared to Expect the Unexpected," shows to the student what can happen if we are not prepared to expect what might go wrong in any given situation, and even prepare to eliminate accidents.The Prestory Background, Step 2, introduces the long /ai/ sound through several words as in; /ai/ in rain, /ay/ in bay, /ey/ in they, /eigh/ in eight, /aigh/ in straight and many other words. Included with this story is the introduction and review of the vowel consonant e as in; /ie/ in pie, /y/ in fly, /igh/ in night, /ind/ in kind, and many others.The prestory and background shows how words have many meanings such as the word "fishy." Fish stories have been around for hundreds of years and have become to mean a "tall tale." This story tells about how a father and his sons are fishing on a lake in a storm and how all the fish jumped into the boat to raid the bait.This story could be called a "fish story" if there were not others watching from the shore.Step 3, Listening To The Story Without Interruption allows the student to hear the words pronounced along with viewing the story on screen, demonstrating the relationship between letters, words and sounds.Phonics, Writing And Spelling, Step 4, provides the student with creative ways to listen to their voice, and to recognize the sound that's said by others.This section continues with activities for word sounds; Long Vowel /ai/, R controlled Vowels, Digraphs, Word Endings.It emphasizes fluency and how to actually know the many differences in words and their meanings, such as; rhyme/rime, might/mite, some/sum, more/moor, and hundreds of other words a student must know and comprehend to become a highly skilled and fluent reader.In addition, dozens of Sight Words are emphasized and introduced to the learner and provides many opportunities for the reader to practice seeing, hearing and using sight words.This story shows the learner how to divide words between consonants and provides many examples of how this is accomplished and why.It shows and details five different ways to recognize and understand word division in the English language.Many other language concepts are introduced in detail such as; ish words, alphabetical order, e-mail communication, homonyms and their meanings,and many other examples in correctly using 'saw' and 'seen,' are also presented.Step 5, Fiction/Nonfiction Writing, includes several genres that the CompuRead program stories are written around. It also emphasizes the story title, main idea and the specific genre of Realistic Fiction this story was written under.Vocabulary And Expressive Speaking, Step 6, includes relevant phrases that enhances the student's vocabulary and sight word mastery. For example; with seeing and knowing the many words with the /ai/ sound. Idioms about sailing and water craft and rain/raining are compared and introduced to further enhance the student's understanding of English and the many meanings of words.The student's word mastery and comprehension is further taught through phrases. This proven form of lower and higher vocabulary is an outstanding way to show the many meanings of words and how the English language is composed and expressed.Step 7, Science Background tells about fishing and the rich background of sport fishing around the world and how it contributes to the nation's yearly economy.Story Mapping, Step 8, again reviews the story telling and writing process and shows the various aspects of writing and how a story is composed. Story Mapping is an outstanding and effective form of outlining a fiction or non-fiction story. It provides the author with a visual and word structure composition to form any written or spoken communication.Step 9, Home Fun contains activities the student can be involved with at home to assist in his learning to read process.
